Please, try this out:

In brooktree848.c:bktr_intr, uncomment the following line:
 /*     printf(" STATUS %x %x %x \n", s_status, bktr_status, t_pc); */

rebuild the kernel and install it.

Make sure that you have at least one xterm monitoring the console:
xterm -C -bg gray80 -sl 3000 &
