As to issue of speed, in my Intel Plato/PCI box I went from an adaptec 1542B (ISA bus) to a BusLogic 946c (PCI bus). Hard disk is micropolis 2217S fast scsi2, tape is HP 1533 4mm DAT fast scsi2. Doing a level 0 dump of '/usr' (approx. 1000MB used), 1542B took 2hours:24minutes, 946c took 54minutes. Steve Passe smp@csn.org
