Well, as the program is separate from the X server, you could just change the program to call SW_VESA_64K_1024 instead (I think I'll make it an option). I believe that worked, in a earlier test of mine. A problem I encountered is that, once SW_VESA_64K_1024 has been used, SW_VESA_64K_1280 didn't seem to work.
