It's for the submission of smtp-email (maybe other email too), so
that port 25 will be used for talking between MTAs and port 587
will be used for talking between MUA and MTA's.

MUA: Mail User Agent, your mailreader
MTA: Mail Transfer Agent, postfix/sendmail et al
