To: hackers@FreeBSD.ORG Date: Sat, 21 Feb 1998 18:34:24 +0100 (MET) X-Mailer: ELM [version 2.4 PL23] Content-Type: text Sender: owner-freebsd-hackers@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.ORG well, i am trying to compile some of the latest ports and it's quite a mess since some use tk4.1, some tk4.2, some tk 8.0 ... I already hated tk for its abundant runtime errors (reminds me of when i used to run basic programs and there was no compiler... circa 1981...) and this need of having 3 or more versions of tk installed makes me hate it even more (plus, i think manpages for all these version will overwrite each other...) So my questions are: 1) is there any hope to settle on some "standard" version of tk/tcl and try to have most ports use that one; 2) could we flag ports which do not use the "standard" version of tk/tcl so that one needs to do make YES_I_REALLY_WANT_THIS_BLOAT to compile them ... maybe this would help some volunteer to fix the port. 3) is there a simple way to list all ports which depend on a given package (e.g. tk4.1, tk4.2 etc...) again to have an idea of what to fix. cheers luigi -----------------------------+-------------------------------------- Luigi Rizzo | Dip. di Ingegneria dell'Informazione email: luigi@iet.unipi.it | Universita' di Pisa tel: +39-50-568533 | via Diotisalvi 2, 56126 PISA (Italy) fax: +39-50-568522 | http://www.iet.unipi.it/~luigi/ _____________________________|______________________________________ To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-hackers" in the body of the message
