Ddd a quick test, installed the terminus-ttf font from ports and it is 
present and usable in bot xfce4-terminal and mousepad here.

This is "can't reproduce" kind of reply. But it could indicate it's some 
local env problem.

I'm sorry I don't have any further insight to share.
