The Seventh Edition was the last generally available research UNIX, and the Eighth Edition derives from 4.1BSD, not the Seventh Edition. There were also Ninth and Tenth Editions of Research UNIX, after which the project was scrapped. Any UNIX code in Plan 9 would be pure coincidence; the Plan 9 project was a fresh start.
