I think it does not actually hang. Remember you have gone to terminal mode. The messages displayed looked pretty normal. What you have to do is to *press some special key to get out of the terminal mode* or a escape sequence they call it. In my experience with a different OS such as Linux, this key was CTRL-]. I do not know about FreeBSD but I am sure this is what you have to do.
