Which version of gcc are you using, and which version of the jdk14 port
are you using?

If you're using the latest gcc in -CURRENT and the latest port, you
should be using 'gcc (GCC) 3.3.3 [FreeBSD] 20031106' to build
jdk-1.4.2p5.
