Hello,
Thank you for the reply. In light of the fact that my Trantor
controller in all likelihood will not work for me, I have decided
to buy a large EIDE hard drive to attach as slave to my primary
IDE controller. I will use this as a backup storage device.
I boot from my master EIDE hard drive (IDE controller's BIOS).
So the new question becomes: how can I low-level format my
EIDE hard drive in such a way that I can maximize backup space
for my Win95 and my FreeBSD? I want to only copy *.QIC files
from MS-Backup to the Win95 portion and *.tar (or better
compressed tar) files to the FreeBSD partition.

Er, are you sure the Trantor is supported by either OS? I have a
ProAudioSpectrum Plus that has a trantor controller on it and it's not.
Also note you won't be able to boot from it.
What is your current disk? IDE?

If you can mount the new disk, you'll have to prepare it manually then
either install to it or examine your system and copy over the appropriate
files.
Again, you won't be able to boot from this controller, since it doesn't
have a boot ROM.
