Your patch worked, at least in the sense that I was able to do 'cpan -t ExtUtils::MakeMaker' successfully, and I've been able to install a few CPAN modules on my system, including some that use EU:MM. The pattern you're matching for $file in this patch seems fairly pathological ... any idea where/how it's being generated?
