You can merge storage.automount_enabled_hint=3Dtrue into the volume properties by creating an fdi file under /usr/local/share/hal/fdi/preprobe/20thirdparty. This assumes, of course, that hal is the one mounting the volume. If the volume is listed in fstab, then it's being mounted traditionally. If it's being immediately remounted after mounting, that sounds like a bug to me.
