i haven't tried that with 2.2.7, but I used some 2.2.2 packages on 
my 2.2.5 system when that's what I was using. It worked OK. There
are compatibility libraries that you can install, but I'm not sure
you need them unless you're running 2.1.x binaries on a 2.2.x system.
Not exactly sure how that works...
 
At any rate, yes, there's a way to do it without much trouble.
