I agree it's not smart, and I'm sure alot of others here do too, but
it's your network ;)  For ftp access, take root out of /etc/ftpusers,
and for telnet take a look at /etc/ttys.  There's info on this in the
questions list archives, so if you get stuck, try searching there..

Yeah, it's called pico =)  You need to install pine to get it, since
that's what it's a part of..

cd /usr/ports/mail/pine4
make install
