you didn't if you had 'mx' (or, num, for max. file size) set to zero
in your /etc/printcap, as in...

lp|local line printer:\
        :sh:\
        :mx#0:\
        :lp=/dev/lpt0:sd=/var/spool/output/lpd:lf=/var/log/lpd-errs:\
