FYI, if anyone needs to update their Thinkpad BIOS/system controller and doesn't have a floppy or run Windows, I have a working procedure involving Bochs, FreeDOS, and bootable CDs. Bochs/FreeDOS is used to generate floppy boot images from IBM's DOS only BIOS/system controller updaters which are then burned as standalone boot CDs to remove the necessity of having a floppy drive. The current T40 system controller (3.0a)/BIOS (3.04) seems quite a bit better about powering down the fan. Hope this is helpful, Jeff Katcher __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
