My first guess, is that the floppy is "empty".  Microsuk likes to place "unformat" info in hidden blocks.

Use either MSDOS format or mformat under FreeBSD (if you have a system available).

If you format it under MSDOS, be sure to use the /u switch (I think that's right) to specify unconditional.
You are using a 3.5 1.44MB floppy, right ??
