Date: Thu, 30 Jan 1997 15:24:55 -0600 From: Jon Loeliger Sender: owner-hackers@freebsd.org X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk Freebies, OK, I *finally* got around to installing 2.2-BETA on a new disk. Once FTP silliness was eliminated during the install process, all went fairly smoothly with only minor glitches. One of the items I was most interested in seeing with this release was the ATAPI CD ROM code. So I beat on it some with mixed results. In particular, I was able to attach, mount and unmount a CD file system, multiple times and occasionally read from it. It would happily read files for a while, but then it would arbitrarily decide to quit. A umount/mount cycle would clear it up for a while, and the offending file could be read again, only to wedge elsewhere. Then, after, oh, a dozen mount/umount cycles, it finally decided there was: # mount /cdrom cd9660: /dev/wcd0c: Input/output error and would no longer work at all. I suspect that a system reboot would gain me more workable mount/umount cycles again. Here's what the /var/log/messages looks like, in almost all it's wonderous glory (I hacked out the X installation messings and security comments). Please feel free to contact me, but keep me on the CC: list as I'm currently NOT subscribed to hackers.
