It's very common mailing list practice to respond to both the person who sent the mail and the list. There are several reasons for this: 1. It lets the other list members know that the question has been addressed, so that they don't have to answer it themselves. 2. The mailing lists are archived. 3. Someone else may have the same question, so both for those reading the lists in real time, and those reading the archives, it's good that the answer is sent to everyone.
