When I typed "Xnest :1" it responded with: 
_XSERVTransSocketINETCreateListener: ...SocketCreateListener() failed
_XSERVTransMakeAllCOTSServerListeners: server already running

Fatal server error:
Cannot establish any listening sockets - Make sure an X server isn't
already running

This is with XFree86 3.3.3 on a 2.2.8-STABLE system.
