You have said EXACTLY what I needed. Thanks a million now I am back to life. I must admit that my main problem regarding getting into single user mode was my assumption that '-s' alone would do it. It is good that a few others also haven't known this outright. I was doing a -s instead of explicit 'boot -s' Thank you.
