Doing so would properly strip -f* flags including -fno-exceptions. $ llvm-config40 --cxxflags | sed -E ... -e 's/[[[:space:]]]+-f[[^[:space:]]]*//g' ... vs. $ llvm-config40 --cxxflags | sed -E ... -e 's/[[:space:]]+-f[^[:space:]]*= //g' ...
