What change, if any, has been made to the DES encryption used in 3.1 for
the shadow password file?  I have been unable to maintain compatibility
between systems running a distributed password file on 2.2.x/3.0 with 3.1,
and also on a system upgraded from 3.0 to 3.1.  Yes, I did install DES
support :)

Any help/pointers would be appreciated.
