I have installed 4.6.2 and the NIC is a 3COM supported by the xl0 device driver. This same NIC had worked about one year ago, in the same system, until I lost the hard drive. The network at work also supports DHCP, so I brought the system in and connected it. Lo and behold it successfully got an address and worked, without any help from me. At home again whenever I attempt to execute 'dhclient xl0' all I receive is the help screen. What am I doing wrong here? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
