Yes,

I've seen that too.... but that was when the card was misconfigured.

In the case I'm talking about, the three configurable items have
been checked:

 - set the card to the settings GENERIC expects
 - make sure the UTP media interface is selected
 - re-configure the BIOS to allow IRQ 10 to be used for ISA cards

but it still hung unless I had manually ifconfiged the card from
the emergency holigraphic shell before telling it to go... once I
did this, the install went beautifully (at a very good speed too).

Surely the install would have gone very slowly or not at all if
the card was misconfigured. (this was not a minimal install in both
cases as kernel source and XFree86 were selected).

If its a DNS problem.... our DNS server is Digital UNIX 4.0b (maybe d?).

Yes I do realise 2.2.7 is not CURRENT... I was just wanting to see if
many people had seen the same problem to see if there is something that
should be fixed before 3.0 RELEASE goes out. I was originally going
to mail -questions only but I'm pretty sure that many people dont read
-questions.... send-pr is more appropriate but as I said before, I was
in too much of a hurry to gather full hardware information suitable for
a problem report.

Anyway, next time I will gather more information.

"If it is true that our Universe has a zero net value for all conserved
quantities, then it may simply be a fluctuation of the vacuum of some
larger space in which our Universe is imbedded. In answer to the
question of why it happened, I offer the modest proposal that our
Universe is simply one of those things which happen from time to time."
