Instead of possibly going ahead and reinventing a wheel, I thought I would ask the FreeBSD community. I need a tool or script that takes the entries in wtmp and produces information about a set of dialin ttys (ttyd*, in fact) indicating usage, at the very least, and possibly more. It's along the lines of "last," but last doesn't give me exactly what I need. I need it to justify the need for more ports, modems, and phonelines on our dialin server (which is running FreeBSD, and which I managed to get to run FreeBSD over Windows NT on the grounds that FreeBSD actually _works_). I need a tool to summarize use of the three lines we have, to show that they're actually busy most of the time. I'll write it if I have to, but I thought I would ask, first. Someone out there is _bound_ to have written something like this. -- Frank Mayhar frank@exit.com
