I know this isn't really adding anything to the thread and is beside your point, but: I would want to change the backup extensions BECAUSE patch uses `.orig' by default. After doing something like: % patch < some/patch/file % perl -pe -i~ 's/%%FOO%%/foopath/' file-a file-b dir/file-c I want to have the original (pre-patch) files around for comparison as `.orig', not stomped by perl (s/perl/sed/ as appropriate :-) Cheers, -- Jacques A.
