I had a 3c509 in the system, however, this panic occurs with or without it. It's currently got a (yuk! 8-bit) WD8003-EBT. That cured my other problem of "stray irq 7" but I haven't yet tried this with the -RELEASE kernel I've just installed to get the box going again. I'll do this after I come back from "Miss Saigon" this evening to see if that's -stable-specific as well, michael
