I guess I forgot to mention I'm using at Matrox Millennium G400.  I
guess 5 years is old but wasn't a bottom-of-the-barrel card either.

I lean toward two ports if only for simplicity in tracking branches,
patches and eventual obsoletion of the older branch after things have
been resolved.
