Hi all, sorry to break in on the development list, to which I'm not even subscribed -- in fact I'm not even sure if this is the right address -- someone please set me straight? I found the archives on confused.ume.maine.edu but that hostname is pretty descriptive of their state: all the messages of the past year are missing; in their place are the texts of three-year-old messages! It's incredibly frustrating because from the message titles I can see that some recent messages may address my problem but I can't read them. I have a Quantum Viking ultra-wide 4.5G disk sitting on an Adaptec 2940UW and it's pretty unusable -- whenever I try to, for example, mke2fs or copy files onto the drive (apparently always during a write operation) I get a string of messages like Nov 29 11:05:18 kiscica kernel: scsi : aborting command due to timeout : pid 484 8, scsi2, channel 0, id 0, lun 0 Write (6) 02 41 4b 8c 00 (a bunch of these, followed by a bunch of:) Nov 29 11:05:20 kiscica kernel: SCSI host 2 abort (pid 4848) timed out - resetti ng Nov 29 11:05:20 kiscica kernel: SCSI bus is being reset for host 2 channel 0. This is on 2.0.32. I found a reference to dledford@dialnet.net's patch (ftp.dialnet.net/pub/linux/aic7xxx) and installed the patch against 2.0.32 dated Nov. 5 but it makes no difference at all. Would one person be so kind as to reply to me personally by mail (ajk@garnet.berkeley.edu) as I'm not sure I've succeeded in subscribing to the list (it seems to be closed?) Adam
