Only which version is installed by default is changed back. There are
ports for both 1.8 and 1.9.

Not necessarily, you may have ruby 1.8 installed also.

That's fine, you can keep that, just add RUBY_DEFAULT_VER=1.9 to
/etc/make.conf. The more people we have testing 1.9 the better!
