Not a one. The only time I did a clean reinstall was when I lost my master HD. I had things broken up too much and reconfigured my entire disk structure at the same time. When I upgraded to 4.0-release, I uzi'ed both feet. Two of us did the same dumb thing and it wasn't too long until Warner had added an additional comment about the kernel config. I don't know if the change was related but you wouldn't make the same mistake that we did. Even that bungled upgrade didn't lose anything but I did a binary upgrade from floppies. This wasn't a negative direction like you need to go. Most files you can back up. I always have a copy of .../distfiles on several computers. I back up /etc before I get carried away with things. I hardly ever use my base /usr for work. I have /usr[1-4] for that purpose. My Apache www/data is on /usr2/data. I got tired of updating and having to redo things. I come back in and relink. I can basically clean install and not lose anything. Kent > > > > > > > > What are you version of FreeBSD are you trying to upgrade? > > > I had successfully upgraded to 4.2 Stable.
