Ok, ok. I've read the FAQ and know the problem is my CD-ROM interface
card is not a genuine Creative Lab/Sound Blaster card. The interface
is included on an Ultrasound clone , and the I/O port is at 0x300.
After booting with -c to configure matcd0 to probe port 0x300, I get
infinite messages :

matcd0: get_stat: After reading status byte, bus didn't go idle ff f7 300

After browsing the codes quickly, I know my bus status is 0xf7, rather
than the expected 0xff.

The problem is : all are new stuff - a new CD-ROM drive, a new Ultrasound
card clone, a new FreeBSD 2.05R. I can hardly replace any of these. I
am disappointed greatly : in this case, my new CD-ROM is next to useless.

Is there any wordround ? I don't mind hacking the codes but I don't know
where to start. In matcd.4 and source codes, it's not mentioned whether
future work will include improving the compatiblity of those 3-in-1 or clone
adapters.

If nobody can help me directly, could you tell me the e-mail address of
the author of the driver ?

Thanks in advance.
