I know that SLIP works without getty: we are now using SLIP to connect with our IPS via null-modem line on sioX port wit getty disabled (in /etc/ttys), just #slattach -l -s 115200 /dev/ttydX and everything works. Can PPP work in the same manner (i.e. without getty) on null-modem permanent link (actually, it's a ~1 kilometer leased line, do you want more details?), or i miss something?
