Actually, rebuilding the kernel is Chapter 09 of the Handbook. Here's a link: http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/kernelconfig.html What it came to was this: I wanted my soundcard to work. After RFTM, I concluded that the best way to make the card work permanently was to rebuild the kernel. So I read the relevant sections of the handbook and did it. Then again, I did spend about two years using Linux, and compiled several Linux 2.4 kernels in the process. Compared to Linux 2.4, the FreeBSD kernel is a piece of cake to rebuild, IMHO. -- Matthew Graybosch http://www.starbreaker.net GnuPG Key ID: 0x45BC4581 "Sex, Unix, and rock 'n roll" -----BEGIN GEEK CODE BLOCK----- Version: 3.12 G! d- s:+ a-- C+++ UB++++ P+ L+++ E W++ N+ o K- w--- O- M-- V-- PS+ PE++ Y+ PGP++ t 5 X R tv-- b++++ DI+++ D+ G++ e* h+ r++ y+ ------END GEEK CODE BLOCK------ --=.TE.4CFisE4pRQr Content-Type: application/pgp-signature -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (FreeBSD) iD8DBQE8M9sAXG3c5kW8RYERAn4uAKCS/Ns/+bEu1cKeo2QbICSt5tOiLgCfTyVL 8JSKPvwx/mp6cYAI7p/Z/Fg= =zfvX -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --=.TE.4CFisE4pRQr-- To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
