You overrided standard configure arguments, for example --prefix, which lead to installation to /usr/local instead of /usr/X11R6 : install -c -s -o root -g wheel -m 555 -m 755 xterm /usr/local/bin/xterm-static ^^^^^^^^^^ I'd suggest to edit a Makefile and modifying CONFIGURE_ARGS+= line to suit your needs. http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=73718
