I don't know the right way to find. But the following may help you.

% cd /sys
% gtags  (--- wait for a while)
% global -rx tsleep

Note: gctags sometimes dies on alpha without the following patch.
/usr/src/usr.bin/ctags/C.c may have the same bug.
