Hi, I'm running FreeBSD 5.1-RELEASE on a modern (~8mo old) PC. I am trying to add a new Western Digital 200GB IDE drive to my system (through a Promise Ultra DMA100 controller), and when I try to (W)rite changes to the disk, I get an error dialog box saying "ERROR: Unable to write to disk ad4!", then "Disk Partition write returned an error status". When I first start the fdisk gui from sysinstall, it complains about the geometry (37621C/16H/63S) and tries to "correct" it to 24321C/255H/63S (though the original is the correct geometry). I am unable to set the geometry, when I try to change it back, I get the error that it's set incorrectly. >From my boot messages, here's the disk and IDE controller card I'm using. atapci1: <Promise PDC20268 UDMA100 controller> port 0xc400-0xc40f,0xc000-0xc003,0xbc00-0xbc07,0xb800-0xb803,0xb400-0xb407 mem 0xe8000000-0xe8003fff irq 11 at device 12.0 on pci0 ad4: 190782MB <WDC WD2000JB-34EVA0> [387621/16/63] at ata2-master UDMA100 Anyone have any ideas? Please CC this email address, I can't keep up with the volume on these lists so I'm not subscribed. thanks mucho, -Nick __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? SBC Yahoo!
