Basically, I have slightly restructured the rc* files, you can see ho in the commit message for src/release/picobsd/mfs_tree/etc/rc (on both HEAD and RELENG_4). On RELENG_4 i have gone a step further, by nuking some irrimediably outdated configurations, and making sure that some of the others at least reach the stage of letting the user login at the console. The only missing one (will work on it tonight) is the "router" image. As usual, the best working one is the "bridge" image. If someone is willing to try the new code, feedback is welcome.
