we have a core router running 2.2.7. it has 2 PCI de ethernets, a PCI vx ethernet and an ISA ep ethernet. we have interior router running 2.2.6 with PCI de ethernets. the interior machine is connected to the ep ethernet of the core machine. recently, we swapped out the previous core router (was NetBSD with ed ethernet) for the above machine. since the swap, gated (running on both machines) seems to lose contact and the interior machine (and/or the core) decides that it can't pass packets over the route. oddly enough, if i fire up a tcpdump on the core router ep interface, packets start flowing instantly. my feeling is that for some reason, kicking the ep driver into promiscuous mode causes gated to retrun to normal operation. is there some bug with the ep driver, and promiscuous mode? or is it possibly a bug in gated, misinterpreting the ep driver? -- [ Jim Mercer Reptilian Research jim@reptiles.org +1 416 410-5633 ] [ The telephone, for those of you who have forgotten, was a commonly used ] [ communications technology in the days before electronic mail. ] [ They're still easy to find in most large cities. -- Nathaniel Borenstein ] To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
