I use teTeX, and am very happy with it. It is a "bells-and-whistles"
package with everything.

It all installs very cleanly in its own directory, and this is about
64MB. It also wants wishx (=tcl/tk/tclX), and I do not know off hand
how big that lot is. If you do not need xtexsh under X, you can comment
out this requirement in the ports Makefile.
