FreeBSD myhost.mydomain.net 8.4-RELEASE FreeBSD 8.4-RELEASE #0 r251259: Sun Jun 2 21:26:57 UTC 2013 root@bake.isc.freebsd.org:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC amd64

>Description:
When defining any encryption options for the synergys daemon, the client cannot connect. The message on the client side is:
“WARNING: failed to connect to server: Protocol error from server”

When no encryption method is defined everything works as expected.
>How-To-Repeat:
Synergy Server is FreeBSD 8.4 desktop (synergy-devel-1.4.12)
Synergy Client is Windows 7 32bit desktop (synergy-1.4.12-Windows-x86.exe)

Set up simple ~/.synergy.conf defining the two desktops.

Run daemon with following settings:
/usr/local/bin/synergys --crypto-pass MyPassWord --crypto-mode gcm

Configure Windows client with Password: MyPassWord and Mode: GCM (Galios/Counter)

The process was repeated for the other supported modes (ofb, cfb and ctr)
