FYI, on my system FreeBSD 5.2-CURRENT #0: Wed May 26 02:08:58 EEST 2004
I have no such problems. It is a VIA KT400/8235 (and also on an 8237)
with a Plextor PX 708A DVD+RW burner.

Have you contacted k3b maintainer ? I found him to be very helpful.
