Was that patch-bsd_KbdMap.c.2 or patch-kbd_sparc_2.c (I know I could name them 
more thoughtfully :) Did you use type5 as Model before?

About resolution - could you rather try specifying Modes under Section 
"Screen" as in example at 
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/x-config.html
If it doesn't work, could you mail log and configuration (but perhaps to 
freebsd-x11@ so we don't spam freebsd-sparc64 list :)
