I want to keep 1.8 in -devel port for some more time, because 1.8 branch ha=

lot of drastic changes and 1.7 is very stable.

I'd prefer to stick to upstream as much as possible (do not make local chan=
ges
unless really necessary).  So I'd grab that patch as is, and if it is really
needed to adjust it for clang that push these changes upstream (clang is us=
ed
not only on FreeBSD, so others will also benefit).
