Hotmail no longer runs on FreeBSD. Microsoft transitioned to MS platforms a while back. There has been a lot press lately about a leaked internal report from Microsoft regarding the transition process. Basically, the internal report speaks very hightly of *nix on the whole and in some ways degrades Windows. Check it out at: http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/4/28226.html The article is entitled "MS paper touts Unix in Hotmail's Win2k switch." And there are also a link to what is apparently the actual document. It's worth a read.
