I think in the early days of FreeBSD, somebody down at UWM was trying to make it ROM-able. I'd check with Jim Lowe or Jim Jegers (current address unknown, previously ). There was a thread a really long time ago on -hackers about this, but I can't seem to find a mailing list archive anywhere. ... JG
