Thar didn't do it for me. Btw, my computer is a Lenovo R61
laptop.

Is there a command that will show me which packages I have
installed from the ports collection? I seem to remember that I
did install something from ports to make the X system work, but
unfortunately I didn't take notes. If only I could see what
packages I have installed from ports, perhaps it would give me
a clue.
