Just noticed this piece of the thread and though I would through in
the fact that ``preformatted'' does not mean defect free.  Infact often
preformatted DOS floppies full of defects since DOS format cleans them
up for the mfg. 

By all means, preformatted floppies are NOT FreeBSD ready!!!!  One of
the common failure modes of installation we have has been tracked down
to bad floppy disk god only knows how many times!!!
