I recently setup a bootable CDROM while tinkering with the livecd port. One of the things you had to do was build a kernel with: options ROOTDEVNAME=\"cd9660:acd0\" In my case the above references my CD drive, but I imagine you'd need to do something similar for your zip drive... good luck.
